Christmas is only 35 days away for Germans observing the celebration on Dec 24th. Christmas markets are about to start again in and a few are as early as this coming Sunday 21 Nov, such as the one held in the Franconian castle Schloss Zeilitzheim.
Most others start on the First Advent, 28 November 2009. The big town markets run for four weeks all the way up to Christmas Eve, whereas the small towns usually have it for a few days only (Thu – Sun) as it is in our town of Oberursel/Taunus (25 – 28 November).
Whether you are a new expat to Germany or have been living here for a while, Christmas market hopping does not get boring with the help of mulled wine and Bratwurst. Visiting a nearby Christmas market is one of the nicest things to do with your family on these otherwise quiet Sundays.
