Inspired by some positive feedback I got from a stateside reader (in contrast to what my son says about this blog), I decided to take a little walk through the Camp King neighborhood on this beautiful Indian summer day.

Officers' Club a.k.a. Mountain Lodge in Oberursel
In June 2010, I had written a short post about Officers’ Club at Camp King finds Investor. Unfortunately, nothing has been done on the outside since then.

This photo was taken on the steps of the back entrance, looking down the hill side, towards Hohemarkstrasse (not in view).

The area around the Officers’ Club shows some very modern apartment buildings and some one-family homes in the half-timbered style.
Nothing really much has changed since the Mountain Lodge/Officers’ Club got its new owner. And time is not on its side – another ten years without occupancy and then…?

Around the Oberursel area, we get all kinds of ethic, exotic, and extra-terrestrial food, or so it seems. The latest contribution to my collection in tasting unusual food was this corn ice-cream.
A Korean student had brought it to the lesson, and when I saw the wrapper, I did not associate a picture of corn cubs with ice-cream. Except for that it was very cold to the touch.

Low and behold, it did contain corn-flavored ice-cream, complete with kernels.

… and surprisingly, it tasted very good! Asians do have a knack for combining ingredients in unusual combinations, such as using vegetables in an ice-cream. The Asian market seems to be more willing to try out new concoctions.
The Japanese have a proverb – roughly translated:
If you eat or drink something you have never tasted before, you get to live an extra 70 days.
If you are in the Oberursel area and would like to try this ice-cream, then visit Handok.

In July 2011, a typical English phone booth at Rushmoor Park in Oberursel opened its doors to become host to another public library.
Since it is open to the public, anybody can borrow a book or drop one off. You can sit down and read on the spot (there are some benches for your convenience) or take the book/books home.
There is no signing in or out – feel free to take what you need. Of course, you can also drop off your unwanted books there. At the moment, among many other books, you also find three math books and a French dictionary. The range of available books keeps growing.
BookCrossing members also use this spot for a convenient drop-off. I had a notification just this morning from a member, who has registered and released three books, such as Falsetto by Anne Rice, at the phone booth at Rushmoor Park.
Either way, this is a great way for people to read books and/or meet.
Note: You do not have to be a BookCrossing member to use this facility.
