Planet Germany Rouses Earnest Germans

About a year ago, I had purchased Cathy Dobson‘s book Planet Germany as we were doing a podcast with her.

Her book made me giggle and laugh. She dared to write about the Germans’ quirks in such a funny way, but deep down I wondered if the Germans would find it that funny, too.

We found out a few weeks ago, after the German media had reported about it excessively for a few days, that a few Germans really took her writing in too much earnest.

I thought her book so funny that I ended up donating it to the British Women’s Club of the Taunus for their library. Surely some of these British expats would welcome a good laugh about the quirks of their host country and its people, too.

Now I’ve got an offer from Graham, who runs AllThingsGerman, to ride from rainy Oberursel to rainy Düsseldorf where Cathy is doing a book reading/signing tomorrow. I have not decided yet whether I will go or not. Spending close to six hours on the Autobahn is not that alluring… but meeting this brave British author would be.

Visit Cathy’s blog to learn more about her and you may also have a look at her book Planet Germany on Amazon.de, Planet Germany on Amazon.co.uk, and Planet Germany on Amazon.com.

Getting curious and wondering if the French sold this funny book on their site. Yup, Amazon.fr offers Planet Germany for the French, so they can get to like and admire the Germans a bit more, too. 🙂
