Being an expat family member, but also a repat at the same time, I am often consulted about legal matters in Germany such as prolonging a visa. I don’t always have the answers and need to research them myself. I focus my search on information in English so it will be comprehensible to the person seeking advice. I sometimes get answers in German and translate, but then I find myself responsible for its content. I would rather leave this to the legal pros….
While searching for legal information for another expat, I ran across this link:
It is an informative website meant for English-speaking expats to learn about German legal matters. It is a concise encyclopedia on German law made comprehensible to us lay people. There are also frequent updates and monthly newsletters on important topics.
I have talked to expat businessmen, who have lost sleep and confidence over legal matters. For anyone doing business in Germany, The Legal Guide to Germany might just be the answer for a better sleep.

It may help you solve some of your initial questions before having to consult a lawyer right away.
An interesting site, it reminds me a bit of ToyTown
I often get these sort of questions too – often from German nationals as well! Although you can then give your opinion based on your own experience, it’s important that it is just that – your opinion – and you tell them to get proper legal advice if necessary.
Hi Graham,
Right, the questions could have been found on ToyTown but the main difference is that an expert is answering such questions and not just another layperson willing to help.
