I start with a word and the next person writes a new word beginning with the last couple of letters (or three or four letters…) of the previous word.

    I checked Webster’s College dictionary for possibilities such as wards-, ards-, and ds-.
    Nothing. So I take the liberty to change the last word from onwards (adverb) to

    onward (adjective)
