Earning a Doctorate in Education while Overseas
My husband got his Masters in Education while living in Germany and attending a branch office of National Louis University in the Frankfurt area. At that time we also wondered if a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.)could be earned the same way – living overseas and earning credits for an American Doctorate degree.
One of my friends informed me of Northeastern University’s Doctorate in Education, which is taught mostly online over a three-year period with one or two summers spent in Boston. The College of Professional Studies Graduate Tuition per Q.H. charges US$ 438,00 per credit. “Tuition and fees are subject to revision by the president and Board of Trustees at any time.”
From the website: “Students who live and work long distances from Boston may elect to take up to 11 of their 13 courses online. The remaining two must be taken on-campus to meet the program’s two courses on-campus residency requirement. Many students will find the intensive one-week summer courses the most convenient pathway to meeting this requirement. Inexpensive summer housing is available.”
Northeastern University is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Da mein Mann seinen Masters in Education auch nebenbei an einer amerikanischen Uni in Deutschland gemacht hat, weiss ich, dass die meisten internationalen Schulen hier in Deutschland generell diese Titel anerkennen.
Wie sonst könnte man sich nebenbei weiterbilden? Ein akedemisches Freijahr würde hierfür nicht ausreichen und wäre auch schlecht zu finanzieren – ohne Gehalt. Für uns Ausländer ist das der einzige Weg und wird auch von Ausländern in Deutschland anerkannt.
Die deutsche Bildungsnorm stellt die höchsten Ansprüche in Bezug auf zertifizierten Abschluss, obwohl sie mitunter am schlechtesten abschneidet. Siehe Pisa Auswertung.
Ein anderes Beispiel – um Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF) unterrichten zu können, soll man ein Germanistikstudium absolviert haben. So ein Studium kostet dem deutschen Steuerzahler an die € 100.000,–.Damit kann man dann an der Volkshochschule € 13,50 pro 45-Minuten Einheit verdienen.
Deutschland hat hohe Erwartungen in Bezug auf Anerkennung, zu hoch meiner Meinung nach.
