Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do!

In unpredictable times like these we tend to change some habits and also suddenly remember some old books again such as Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do! Well, I only remember them in challenging times and have to dust them off a bit. I like reading just before I go to sleep, so motivating thoughts are a good way to drift off. We need a bit of spirit and innovation to outlast this global crisis. Then again, this book might be worth reading during regular times too, such as when child-rearing (we have got a teen and a preteen at home…)

For some of you the title alone might be sufficient to stay upbeat and motivated.

This is what happened once when I saw this German book titled Liebe Dich selbst und es ist egal wen Du heiratest. Well, translated this means: Love yourself, then it does not matter whom you are married to. I have loved that line ever since!

Some book titles are poignant enough to walk away from the book store feeling inspired and motivated. A catchy book title can be as effective as a witty quotation by Oscar Wilde.

Robert H. Schuller wrote Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People do! in 1983. The United States of America was in a recession ( I remember it clearly, because I was living there at that time) and many people needed some good old American cheer-me-up gusto. It worked – the readers loved this book and it stayed on the New York Times Bestseller List for three months.

It might not be to everybody’s liking – it was written by a churchman, but with lots of practical advice.

Then again take my advice – you have just read the book title. Wasn’t that an inspiration in itself?
