Happy Chinese New Year! 农历新年
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my Asian friends!
祝 你 们 新 年 快 乐!!
On the Western calendar, the start of the Chinese New Year falls on January 26, 2009 — The Year of the Ox.
The Chinese year 4707 begins on Jan 26, 2009. Chinese months are based on the lunar calendar, with each month beginning on the darkest day. The Chinese New Year festivities traditionally begin on the first day of the lunar month and continue until the fifteenth day, when the moon is brightest. This day is also called Lantern Festival.
In China, people may take a week of holiday from work to prepare for and celebrate the New Year with family and friends.
This holiday is also observed by some Koreans, Vietnamese, Japanese, Miao (Chinese Hmong), Mongolians, Tibetans, the Nepalese and the Bhutanese.
More information and fun activities about the Chinese New Year are available on apples4the teacher.
