I Spy Little Numbers

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

This is another great book in the “I Spy” series by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick. Preschoolers will especially adore perusing Wick’s colorful photographs to find objects. In I Spy Little Numbers, they’ll develop number identification and counting skills.

Oh, the Thinks You Can Think! by Dr. Seuss

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Children will love the crazy rhymes and drawings. Some pages in particular will really grab children’s attention. The rhymes in Dr Seuss’ books are always spot-on, if not poetic. Overall, this could be your child’s favourite picture book.

I Spy Mystery

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

This is a book of picture riddles, especially good for kids aged 5-10. Like the other books in Marzollo’s “I Spy” series, this one has a simple rhyming text and clear color photographs of common objects. Readers have to look diligently for the bright toys, games, party favors, sports equipment, and other childhood items that hide in interesting settings. The photography is just amazing. An entertaining book for kids and adults!

Dear Juno by Soyung Pak and Susan K. Hartung

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

This tale is about a young Korean-American boy living in the U.S. who communicates by letters with his grandmother in Korea. He cannot read Korean, but gets to understand his grandmother´s messages of love and family ties.

It is beautifully written and illustrated in oil-paint glazes. It helps children to understand cross-cultural relationships and shows how language and age barriers can be overcome with a bit of creativity.

A fairy for every color of the rainbow

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

My daughter Margo just finished reading the following books in the series:

Ruby the Red Fairy, Amber the Orange Fairy, Saffron the Yellow Fairy, Fern the Green Fairy, Sky the Blue Fairy, Izzy the Indigo Fairy, and Heather the Violet Fairy.

She loved them as any little girl would love to read these interesting tales of sparkling fairies. Each book is divided into six chapters. Margo says the reader should start with Ruby the Red Fairy and then continue in order from book 1 – 7 to make sense.
