The It’s Its There Their They’re QuizFriday, November 30th, 2007Once in a while I do get a bit peeved when bloggers make grammatical errors in regards to basic grammar. Well, it looks like a grammar mistake, but most often is just a case of misspelling. I make other mistakes… no question about that. The rule for its versus it’s is actually pretty simple – if in doubt and you would tend to write it’s, then it is safe to pronounce it out as in it is to see if it fits. Let’s take: the mouse is in it’s/its cage. Which one sounds right to you? The mouse is in it is cage. or: The mouse is in its cage. The other spelling mistakes such as – there, their, and they’re – are done out of sheer carelessness, I’d assume. Test yourself right here: The It’s Its There Their They’re Quiz http://www.blogthings.com/theitsitstheretheirtheyrequiz/ Let me know how you did on this test! Vocabulary Quiz or Free Rice to Help End World HungerSunday, November 11th, 2007For each word you get right, the website FREE RICE donates 10 grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger. This is a great quiz to test your vocabulary and learn more as well. It is so much fun and will keep you going for a while, I hope. So far I have donated 1870 grams of rice to its cause. On the other hand, I am not so sure whether giving out free rice is the only answer. It is a short-term answer to still the hunger. Hunger in itself can be defeating – food is a basic need which always comes first. So people need to be fed first to get stronger and welcome solutions to their problems.
