Московский комсомолец – New Russian Lifestyle Magazine for the Frankfurt Area

With the construction of Palais Quartier and its anticipated affluent clientele, I knew it was just a matter of time before a long awaited Russian magazine would come out. The Rhein/Main area is not only home to 600.000 native Russian speakers, but also hopes to attract Russian clientele who usually go shopping in more attractive cities such as London, Paris, and the like.

Despite the economic crisis, which also includes the Russian economy, the first Russian Lifestyle magazine, published by Московский комсомолец,  went on sale 5 Jan 2009 in the Rhein/Main area. Olga Wilms, MK publishing house, states the magazine addresses not only affluent Russian tourists, but also local Russian residents.

The magazine introduces places to shop, where to go out, lists city news, and it also places a focus on wellness – a Russian penchant. The first edition went into print with 7000 copies. The magazine is published quarterly and will be available at various newsagents, hotels, and restaurants throughout the area.

Frankfurt itself is connected to the former Soviet Union by 620 flights a week and serves as a major West European hub.

This magazine is definitely a warm invitation to attract more Russian-speaking clientele to our area. Let’s just hope  Palais Quartier will be able to open some of its doors on 26 Feb 2009.

Georgian experience on American TV

A 12-year-old American girl is being interviewed on TV about her touch with the war on Georgian territory . The girl and her accompanying aunt had something unexpected to say and the news anchor had to cut them off for running out of time. He finished his interview stating “…… is a gray area.”

Watch this clip and see for yourself how ambiguous news reporting can get. Who can we believe?
