Guided Tour of Camp King Oberursel

On Saturday, 21 June, 2014, the local guide Sylvia Struck is going to give a tour of an area in Oberursel known as the former military post “Camp King”. The tours usually take place in May and August every year, but this year, they are in June and September.

The tour covers the history of the area from the Reichssiedlungshof in the 1930s, through the time of the Dulag Luft, up to the end of the U.S. Army presence in 1992.

The meeting point is the Kinderhaus Camp King, Jean-Sauer-Weg 2  at 2 pm, and the tour costs 3 euro.
This is a good opportunity for local residents to learn more about the history of the area.

Over the years, the local historian Manfred Kopp had given the tours. I suppose his turning 80 just recently got him to delegate this job to a younger person. He is still very active though and a couple of days ago, we had a meeting to discuss the Open House event planned for 14 September (10:00 – 17:00) of this year. Another announcement will follow.

    Greetings together,
I was wondering if anyone still does the camp king tour? We are very interested.

    Kind Regards,

    Esther

  2. Yes, these guided tours run twice a year. As of last year, Mr. Kopp, the Camp King historian, and initiator of these guided tours has given this assignment to a younger member of our Camp King group: Ms. Sylvia Struck now does the tours.
The last one was given on 3 Oct 2015. As soon as the 2016 dates are out, I’ll contact you by e-mail. Feel free to send me a reminder as well. 🙂

I had given a tour myself, which you can view on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXO-LK1qaOY
