Further Education in Prostitution/Migration in Germany
My husband is a teacher and member of the German Teachers’ Union. His membership also includes monthly magazines such HLZ (Zeitschrift der GEW Hessen), Erziehung und Wissenschaft (Zeitschrift der Bildungsgewerkschaft GEW) and occasionally, booklets offering further education.
As I was skimming through the booklet this morning, I found this very interesting seminar with the title: Prostitution und Migration: Excursion ins Frankfurter Rotlichtviertel (red-light district). This caught my eye as I had to ponder why teachers, backed by its category name democratic education, would partake in such an excursion, valued at five points (At present, these IQ Further Education Credits are still in effect, even though the Hessian CDU/FDP coalition wants to do away with this system of accreditation).
This excursion on 02 December 2009, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. (non-members fee € 39, union members pay € 23) will explore its topic in the red light district of Frankfurt and you will earn five credits in further education. Wow!
This lecture promises to solve the following questions:
Prostitution is a projected area for varied ideas of sexuality. What actually happens, on a daily basis, in the prostitution trade in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel ( the area in front of Frankfurt train station)? What is prostitution? How and why do migrating prostitutes come to Germany? Who earns how much in this prostitution trade? On site lecture and discussion at the information/help desk Doña Carmen e.V., followed by a stroll through the red light district.
As a well read and mature person, I believe I could answer all these questions myself without having to go on a tour. Instead of, say, 15 people paying this registration fee to gawk and nod their heads at misery, this money could be offered to a girl who wants to get out of this trade. Some, I am sure, would like to see the end of their involuntary body acts. Some others might enjoy their jobs, fine. Prostitutes help keep Germany’s streets fairly safe for women.
